 A long time
ago, a girl I thought I loved went away. I was crushed and found myself at a stand still. Then, one day a man I knew asked
me and my friends if we wanted to try out for a play he was doing at a theater in El Cerrito. The play was Mr. Roberts. They
needed guys to play the crew. When my friends heard that they had to give up Friday and Saturday nights for six weeks plus
rehearsals, they were gone. However, I stayed and went on to meet lots of ladies (my main objective), played some wonderful
roles, worked with great directors and fabulous people, and along the way developed a love and respect for the craft of acting.
In that time I became a member of the Screen Actors Guild and AFTRA, (winning
my cards in 1981) and through my agents in San Francisco, have been cast in National Commercials, local television dramas
along with local and regional commercials, while continuing theater work and study. During this time, I married and was blessed
with a daughter. (Who just recently bless me with a grandson.)Yet, shortly after the birth of my daughter, I had to leave
the business and find more stable employment. But, always deep down inside me there was the pull of the craft. Fortunately,
unfortunately, mercifully, for all members of the cast, that run came to a close. As the saying goes. “When one door
closes another opens.” I met another lady. Although I wasn’t looking for the love of my life, I
found her. I moved to San Francisco and started and new great life with her along with restarting my career. In these past few years I have been
able to direct that career to the pleasure of working more in film. Working with Rory Dean (Once Beautiful Past) and
being able to study with David Keith of the San Francisco School of Digital Film. While still holding on to my bay area roots
I have ventured to LA, meeting and working with more wonderful people, studying under men the likes of Mark Tischner at TVI
and Jeffery Brooks of the Actors Creative Workshop, and am now a member of the Actors Network. It takes a lot of time and
a lot of miles and it may not be the most common path traveled? But it’s mine and with the love and support of my wife
and my friends. I’m making it work and..."It will be what it will be." And so far? It's been pretty
good! Robin Calvert
